Use Your Wisdom To Do What Makes You Happy Right Now

“What makes you happy?” That is one question I get asked a lot. Unfortunately, as good as our scientific understanding of the human species is, there are still people out there that really have no idea what it means to be happy. Some folks will tell you that being happy is subjective. The true is, though, that the state of your personal happiness is a very real and important thing to you.

I think the first step to being able to answer the question, “what makes you happy,” is to understand what makes us happy. I know that for me, at least, there are three major factors that get me pumped up. They are:

  • One: The household income. If you’re one of those folks that has been juggling multiple work schedules because of your job, or if you’ve got a family to feed and clothe, your income isn’t what it used to be. It can be enough to drive a person crazy, and keep them from being all that they can be in the way of being happy. Fortunately, there are things you can do to increase your household income. It may not give you the lifestyle change that you were hoping for, but it certainly will add some more zest to your life!
  • Two: The level of security in your life. People live very insecure lives. For some people, having a secure base of income and a secure place to live can go a long way toward making them feel like they have the world wrapped up in their palms. If you feel like you have a great deal of control over the stability of your life, you are much more likely to be happy.
  • Three: The amount of personal time you have available. Most of us have jobs, children, a spouse, and other obligations that just run our day. When you take a moment to stop and think about how much time you have available to you right now in this moment, you may realize that there is not nearly as much happiness in your life as you thought there was. If you want to be happy, you need to be in control of your time. The less time you spend worrying about the future and wishing things were different, the happier you will be.
  • Four: The amount of joy you feel on a daily basis. Joy is relative. One person’s joyful experience may be another person’s frustration. The key to feeling like your life is enriched by what makes you happy is to experience the joy in all areas of your life.
  • Five: A sense of purpose. People are able to live fulfilling lives when they are doing things that make them happy. When you are working at something that makes you unhappy, you are not giving yourself the chance to be productive and happy. You may get through the day, feel tired or stressed, and have less fun. But if you focus on the joy that you are gaining from your work, you will find a way to make it better. This one thing makes what makes you happy consistent for the long haul.

So, if you are ready to start feeling like your life is enriching by what makes you happy, start today. Stop complaining and judge yourself. Start loving what makes you happy. Then and only then can you really say that you are living a happy life.

Now, there are ways to go about getting what makes you happy, and these are what I would suggest. First, figure out what makes you happy. Write it down if you can; a mantra if you must. Then use this as a guide to getting your ideal life. If there is no ideal life, figure out what makes you happy on your own terms, and move toward that.

Second, find ways to be happy. Pursue what makes you happy, and look for ways to add to your joy on a daily basis. By being happy with what makes you happy, you will find that you are more likely to stick with the pursuit of happiness. When you feel like your life is enriching, you will want to do what makes you happy and continue striving for happiness, until that becomes a reality for you.

Finally, learn how to do what makes you happy right now. Pursue your ideal life, and make it a goal to achieve it. Doing what makes you happy right now will enrich your life, and when you do something that makes you happy right now, you are much more likely to stick with it and reach your goals.
